What is energy efficiency and how does it help the environment?
At Co-operative Energy, you’ll often hear us talking about energy efficiency. It’s something we’re really passionate about. But what does energy efficiency mean?
To put it simply, it’s all about getting more for less. A product is more energy efficient if it can provide the same service while using less energy, or work better and last longer while using the same amount of energy as a different product.
Light bulbs are a good example of the difference energy efficiency can make. Traditional light bulbs aren’t very efficient – they produce a lot of light, but release a lot of heat in the process, wasting energy. New, energy-efficient bulbs like LEDs can create the same amount of light, using less energy and without creating excess heat.

Energy efficiency is something we all need to be focusing on if we want to limit the impact we’re having on the environment. As we reduce the amount of energy we use in our day-to-day lives, we reduce the amount of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere, which are a key cause of climate change.
Switching to more energy efficient products, such as LED light bulbs, is a fantastic way to start reducing your carbon footprint and save money on your energy bills.
