Getting a smart meter installed will transform the way you regulate energy use in your home, and now we’ve begun our nationwide rollout, the process is very simple.
Thanks to a recent government initiative, every household in the UK can get a smart meter installed at no extra cost. The goal is that by 2020 every home in the UK will have a smart meter.
What are the different types of smart meter?
There are two different types of smart meter - SMETS1 and SMETS2. SMETS1s are the first generation of smart meters, SMETS2 are the latest generation smart meters and we are currently in the process of rolling out SMETS2 meters.
Smart meters measure how much gas and electricity you’re using, as well as what it’s costing you and display this on a handy in-home display.
With a smart meter, you can say goodbye to estimated bills and meter readings. Smart meters send all your meter readings directly to us, so you don’t have to lift a finger to make sure your bills are clear and accurate.
How are smart meters installed?
We will get in touch via your preferred method of contact and arrange a time and date for an engineer to come to your home. We’ll also let you know how long the process will take and if there is anything specific you need to do beforehand - all at no extra cost to you.
Where will my smart meter be installed?
Your newly installed smart gas and electricity meters will normally go exactly where your old meters were, but if they need to be fitted elsewhere, your installer will consult you first.
On the installation day, just let the installer in and make sure they can easily access your traditional meters – they’ll do the rest. The whole process should take no more than a couple of hours.
