This Autumn Midcounties Co-op opened a 14,000 sq ft energy-efficient store in Bourton-on-the-Water, featuring multiple eco-friendly initiatives.
Co-operative Energy is part of Midcounties Co-op and as a co-operative we are continuously working to improve our green credentials.
Our new store in Bourton-on-the-Water, a village within the Cotswolds, features energy efficient technology wherever possible. The lights are low energy LEDs, water in the store is heated using warmth generated from the refrigeration units and there are solar panels on the roof designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. These solar panels provide around 33,000kwh a year of energy, which is enough to power almost three households for a year.
In the store you will find over 800 products made in Gloucestershire and neighbouring counties stocked as part of Midcounties Best of our Counties range. This helps to reduce food miles and support local producers and suppliers. If you’re local to the store, this also gives you the chance to sample the best of the produce grown and made on your door step and there are some really great products.
Outside the store you’ll find electric car charging points, with energy supplied by Co-op Energy free of charge. Currently 65% of our energy is from renewable sources, so these charging points are helping to defend the environment. The car park has room for around 100 cars and there’s even somewhere for your dog to wait and have a drink while you shop.
