Statement from Co-operative Energy on Energy and Climate Change Select Committee report ‘Energy Prices, Profits & Poverty’

Posted on 29 July 2013

Co-operative Energy and its parent Midcounties Co-operative are passionate advocates of the need for tariff simplicity, profit margin transparency and responsible tax planning. We have a perverse situation where the Big Six champion complexity and opacity, and then profit from the consumer mistrust and low switching rates this creates. We support Ofgem in its drive to open up markets to new energy suppliers and independent generators.

Ofgem has proposed reforms which go some way in combating the bad practices implemented by the Big Six, and in time, we expect there to be real change and reform across the market which will benefit all energy consumers.
