What happens when your tariff ends?

Reaching the end of a fixed-term energy tariff can be both daunting and confusing – especially when the security of your fixed monthly payment is taken away, and you have to make sense of the energy market and switching sites once again.

At The Co-operative Energy, we try to make reaching the end of your fixed tariff as hassle free as possible: and here’s how…

Existing Customer Comparison Tool

To help you feel sure that you’re on the best tariff for your needs, we’ve created the Existing Customer Comparison Tool. The handy tool allows you to compare what you’re currently paying for your energy against the other products we’re currently offering to customers.

You don’t have to wait until your fixed tariff is over to use it either. We make a point of never offering ‘new customer only’ deals, so if you find that you could save more with one of our different products or tariffs, you can switch straight away. Plus, even if you have months left on your contract, we won’t charge you an exit fee.

End of tariff notification

49 days before your tariff is due to end, we’ll send you a regulatory End of Tariff Notification. This communication is an Ofgem requirement and will be sent to all customers reaching the end of their tariffs.

It should contain information about all your options for future contracts, as well as a breakdown of the cheapest tariff we can move you on to if you’d like to stay with us.

Don’t worry if you forget to get back to us.

Generally, if we haven’t heard from you a week or two before you contract ends, we’ll send you one last reminder. Rest assured that if we don’t hear from you before the end of your tariff, we won’t just cut off your energy supply - but move you onto our standard variable tariff instead. You won’t be locked into this contract and can switch to another tariff whenever you choose.

Will you be reaching the end of your fixed tariff in December or January? Well, you’ll be delighted to know that our latest tariff doesn’t only give you the option to fix your energy prices until December 2016, but fix them at a lower rate too!
