South Yorkshire Credit Union provides a range of accessible, affordable and quality credit union services to improve the quality of life of its members. It is democratically run as a savings and loan co-operative that is owned and controlled by its members.

South Yorkshire Credit Union has nine branches throughout the region and over 27,000 members. As part of the partnership, electrical goods will also be available for purchase through Co-operative Electrical which will help members to buy items at a competitive price without having to worry about inflated interest rates.

Martin Cook, affiliate manager with Co-operative Energy, commented: “This is a prime example of co-operatives working together for member benefits. We are working closely with South Yorkshire Credit Union to offer the best deals on gas and electricity bills to members and staff.

“A Co-operative Energy advisor will visit branches to talk members through the process of finding the best energy tariff to suit their particular needs, address their energy concerns and highlight initiatives such as the warm Home Discount Scheme. We want to ensure that particularly vulnerable members of society are able to keep warm and well throughout the winter. Our partnership with South Yorkshire Credit Union exists to fully support the ongoing commitment to the alleviation of poverty within the community and helping to contribute to local economic regeneration.”
