What is the difference between Broader Group and Core Group?

The Broader Group is open to customers who are in receipt of income related benefits and in, or at risk, of fuel poverty.

The Core Group is designed to support customers in receipt of Pension Credit.

Core Group

Who is eligible for the Core Group scheme?

Co-operative Energy customers on supply with us on 10 July 2016, and currently in receipt of Pension Credit made up of one of the following elements, will receive an electricity bill rebate of £140.00 from us. 

  • Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit;
  • Guarantee Credit only.

Please note that eligibility is subject to prior verification by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

When will I receive my rebate for Core Group?

Core Group rebates will be applied by 31st March 2017. All rebates will be credited on or before this date. This credit will be shown on the next bill after the rebate has been applied. Those customers with a PPM will receive the rebate in vouchers posted to their correspondence address. 


Broader Group

Who is eligible for the Broader Group scheme?

In order to qualify for the Broader Group, customers must be on a low household income or in receipt of certain benefits as well as meeting other criteria. Customers can apply online or via paper application.

How do customers apply for the Broader Group?

Eligible customers for a Broader Group rebate can complete an application form on our webpage: www.cooperativeenergy.coop/whd/bg

If a paper application form or a form in an alternative format such as braille or large print is required, please contact our Warm Home Discount Team by email to whd@cooperativeenergy.coop or by Freephone 0800 954 0693 and select option 4.

Please note that we have a limited number of Broader Group discounts which we can apply in this scheme year. We reserve the right to close the application process once our quota is met. Only one application may be made per household.

Successful applicants will receive the Warm Home Discount of £140.00 from Co-operative Energy providing they are on supply at the time of rebate.

When will the rebate for Broader Group be applied?

Rebates will be applied on a first come first served basis to successful applicants. The scheme must close before 31st May 2017 and may close earlier if we meet our quota.

If I have any questions about my application, who do I need to contact?

Please contact our Warm Home Discount Team by email whd@cooperativeenergy.coop or on Freephone 0800 954 0693 and select option 4. The team will be happy to review your application details and advise fully if your application has been rejected due to insufficient evidence.

You will then have the opportunity to provide further documentary evidence, in order to proceed with your application.

If I wish to change supplier, who will provide me with the Warm Home Discount?

Unfortunately, applications for the Broader Group cannot be transferred between suppliers. If you decide to change supplier before you have received the discount from us, you will need to reapply with your new supplier.

Please note that other suppliers may have different eligibility criteria or their schemes may then be closed.


General FAQs 

Do Co-operative Energy offer the Warm Home Discount to gas only customers?

No, the rebate is only available for a customer with an electricity or dual fuel account.

Are Pre-payment (PPM) customers still eligible?

Yes, for Smart PPM customers, the rebate will be applied directly to the electricity meter only.

For non-Smart PPM customers, the rebate will be issued in the form of vouchers that can be exchanged for meter credit at any PayPoint outlet. Please note that you will need to provide identification.
