What is the difference between Broader Group and Core Group?

The Broader Group is open to customers who are in receipt of income related benefits and in, or at risk, of fuel poverty.

The Core Group is designed to support customers in receipt of Pension Credit.

Broader Group

Who is eligible for the Broader Group scheme?

In order to qualify for the Broader Group, customers must be on a low household income or in receipt of certain benefits as well as meeting other criteria. Customers can apply online or via paper application.

How do customers apply for the Broader Group?

Eligible customers for a Broader Group rebate can complete an application form on our webpage: www.cooperativeenergy.coop/whd/bg

Please note that we have a limited number of Broader Group discounts which we can apply in this scheme year. We reserve the right to close the application process upon the provision of rebates to the first 5,559 eligible households whose application we receive during the current scheme year. Only one application may be made per household.

Customers will receive the Warm Home Discount of £140.00 from Co-operative Energy providing they are on supply at the time of rebate.

When will the rebate for Broader Group be applied?

The rebate will be applied on a first come first served basis.  The scheme will close when we have either reached our target of 5,559 customers or reached the end of the scheme year (31st March 2016)

If I have any questions about my application, who do I need to contact?

If your application has been rejected because you did not provide sufficient documentary evidence, you may reapply as long as the scheme is still open.

If I wish to change supplier, who will provide me with the Warm Home Discount?

Unfortunately, applications for the Broader Group cannot be transferred between suppliers. If you decide to change supplier before you have received the discount from us, you will need to reapply with your new supplier.

Please note that other suppliers may have different eligibility criteria or their schemes may be closed.


Core Group

Who is eligible for the Core Group scheme?

Co-operative Energy customers on supply with us on 12 July 2015 and are currently in receipt of one of the following benefits, will receive an electricity bill rebate from us. Please note that eligibility is subject to prior verification by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP):

  • Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit;
  • Guarantee Credit only.

When will I receive my rebate for Core Group?

The majority of eligible customers will receive their rebate before 31 December 2015; however we are obliged to apply the rebate up to the latest date of the 31 March 2016. All rebates will be credited by this date.

This reduction will be shown on the next bill after the rebate has been applied (this exludes PPM customers).


General FAQs 

Do Co-operative Energy offer the Warm Home Discount to gas only customers?

No, the rebate is only available for a customer with an electricity or dual fuel account.

Are Pre-payment (PPM) customers still eligible?

Yes, for Smart PPM customers, the rebate will be applied directly to the electricity meter only.

For non-Smart PPM customers, the rebate will be issued in the form of vouchers that can be exchanged for meter credit at any PayPoint outlet. Please note that you will need to provide identification.
