Consumers have more choices than ever before when it comes to energy suppliers, which can make it difficult knowing who to choose. With so many different options available, and everyone claiming to offer the best energy deals, why should you choose us?
Simple, because at Co-operative Energy we’re different. We’re a co-operative, which means you get a say in how we’re run and where your energy comes from. We work hard to be completely clear and transparent, focusing on our members, customers and long-term sustainability.
We’re owned and run by our members
One of the biggest differences between us and other energy suppliers is that we’re a co-operative, which means we’re owned and run by our members. Most big energy suppliers are owned by shareholders, so any profit they make goes back to the shareholders, rather than the customers. When we make a profit, it’s you, our members, and your community who see the benefits, not shareholders.
We’re fair and transparent
We know the energy market can sometimes be confusing, which is why we aim to always provide the fairest, most uncomplicated and transparent costs and service possible. It’s what you asked for, so it’s what we’ll constantly strive to give you.
In an attempt to attract new customers, many suppliers will claim to offer the cheapest energy rates, offering low-price promotions and special offers to encourage you to switch However, while these energy deals may seem great at first, they only last for a limited amount of time, and the price can often skyrocket once the deal comes to an end.
At Co-operative Energy, we promise to give you fair prices the whole way through you contract, not just at the beginning. We make it as easy as possible for you to switch, and offer a number of different straightforward, fair and easy to understand energy tariffs, so you’re sure to find one that’s best for you.

We care about the world we live in
Just like our customers and members, we’re committed to a sustainable world, and this is reflected in our ambition to obtain 75% of our energy from renewable sources within the next three years. As a step towards this, we’ve already ceased energy that is generated from coal fired power stations.
We’re also committed to helping you, our customers, reduce your own energy consumption by offering energy saving advice and smart technology.
Values and ethics are at the heart of our business
For over 165 years we’ve been making the world fairer for our members, customers and suppliers by providing everyday services at fair prices. We’re not motivated by money or profits, we’re motivated by being a responsible, ethical business that can make a positive impact on climate change.
There are four key values that form the cornerstone of our business: democracy, openness, equality and social responsibility. We believe these are what set us apart from our competitors, and pride ourselves on knowing that everything we do follows these values, from initial training right through to dealing with members, customers and the local community.
Fairplay, Fair Tax
At Co-operative Energy, we believe that all businesses should pay the taxes which are due, and not engage in aggressive tax avoidance schemes, even if legal.
We’re proud to say that in 2014, we became the first energy supplier to receive the Fair Tax Mark accreditation. The Fair Tax Mark is the world’s first independent accreditation scheme to address the issue of responsible tax. The Midcounties Co-operative, which Co-operative Energy is part of, was one of the first businesses to receive the accreditation and was the first company to secure re-accreditation in both 2015 and 2016. Our score has progressively increased as we strengthened our Tax Charter and the transparency of our Financial Statements.
Ben Reid, Midcounties Chief Executive, stated; “We see the Fair Tax Mark as natural extension of our long-standing commitment to put something back into the communities in which we trade. Our Fair Tax Mark certifies that we are paying the right amount of tax, in the right place, at the right time."
